Why Use a Derma Roller?

Since we're now selling derma rollers as well as our derma pens in our online store, we thought it might be a good idea to explain why a derma roller might be a suitable option for you.

Differences Between a Derma Pen and Derma Roller

A derma roller is used for microneedling in the same way our Dr Pen derma pens deliver collagen induction therapy through microneedling. The derma pens are electric and powered by a motor, whereas the derma rollers are powered by hand. For this reason, derma rollers are more time consuming to use than a pen and are far more and limited and less sophisticated devices. So while both products do deliver collagen induction therapy through microneedling, the derma roller is more of a basic intro option and the derma pen is the superior choice. However, this also means there is a big difference in price point too.

The appearance of a roller is also different. A derma roller features a cylindrical attachment cartridge which connects to a handle. The cartridge is covered in lots of tiny needles which prick the surface of the skin, creating "micro-wounds" in the same way a derma pen does (you can learn more about this process here) except because a roller is less flexible and the cartridges are much bigger, you will find it harder to reach those little curves and crevices on your face in the same way a pen can. The pens have smaller, more flexible cartridges designed to reach those hard to reach areas on the face, such as around the nose and eye areas.

Benefits of a Derma Roller

Easy to Use: A derma roller is a great starter device for anyone who is feeling daunted by using an electric derma pen. They are light weight and can be moved in a criss cross motion around the face, easily covering larger areas such as the cheeks, forehead and neck with minimal effort.

You Can Control the Tempo Easily: As the derma roller is hand operated, you can easily control the tempo and pressure.

Attachments: Comes with extra attachments and needle depths to choose from, as well as a silicone brush attachment for cleansing.

Hand Operated: You also won't need to worry about charging your roller or plugging it in, as there is no motor.

Easy to Clean: You can easily clean the cartridges with alcohol solution before and after use. A cartridge will need to be replaced every couple of uses.

Final Comment: If you are unsure about purchasing a derma pen, the derma roller is a more budget friendly, easy device to try as an intro into microneedling. If you don't want to spend the money on a derma pen or are unsure if microneedling is for you, then a derma roller is a great option. To get yours now, click here.
