We’re thrilled to introduce you to our new in-house Beauty Advisor, Monica Evasari. Bringing over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry, Monica is your go-to expert for all things skin and beauty.
Monica will be happy to help you, address any skincare concerns or queries you may have and tailor a treatment journey to help you get the results that you desire.
Today, we’re sitting down with Monica to find out more about her background, what she’s loving in skincare at the moment and some of the best skincare advice she’s been given.
Dr. Pen Australia: Hi Monica! Could you share a bit about your background, and what attracted you to working with Dr. Pen Australia?
Monica: Hi everyone! I have 15 years’ experience in the beauty industry and in 2009, I graduated from the Perth College of Beauty Therapy and got my diploma. I’ve worked with both cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical skin care brands, including natural and organic ranges, luxury skincare and clinic-grade skincare.
I like the fact that Dr. Pen Australia offers people an alternative to do their own beauty treatments at home, safely and effectively. Getting regular treatments at a beauty clinic can be a big investment of time and money, so I love being able to help people achieve fantastic results at home.
Dr. Pen Australia: What made you decide to become a Beauty Advisor?
Monica: I’ve always loved makeup! I always felt like makeup gave me more confidence, but after a while, I’ve discovered that a good and flawless makeup application needs a beautiful canvas and it starts with skincare.
Now thanks to all I know about skincare, I love how I can go out with bare skin and no makeup, but feel totally confident!
Dr. Pen Australia: What are some of the most common skin concerns that people come to you with?
Monica: We’ve all got our skin concerns and insecurities, but some of the most common concerns that I see are pigmentation, fine lines and acne scars. The good news is that they’re all very treatable. I really love being able to bring this experience to our Dr. Pen Australia customers, I believe that everyone deserves to feel good in their skin so it’s wonderful to be able to empower customers from all walks of life.
Pigmentation: Dark spots can occur on the skin for a variety of reasons, including hormonal imbalances, sun exposure, age spots and hyperpigmentation (a condition that causes your skin can darken). Pigmentation can be effectively lightened and removed with a combination of topical treatments such as retinoids, acids and Vitamin C, as well as through cosmetic treatments such as microneedling, which promote the skin’s natural healing processes.

Dr. Pen Australia: What’s one step in your skincare routine that you never skip?
Monica: I have a complete skin care routine! But my basic routine? Pre-cleanse, cleanse, exfoliate (twice a week), toner, serum, oil, eye cream, moisturiser (day and night), mask (once a week) and sunscreen (at least SPF 30+).
Dr. Pen Australia: What’s some of the best skincare advice you’ve ever received?
Monica: Do NOT sleep with makeup on! Sleeping with your makeup on can lead to clogged pores, inflammation, dryness and breakouts. We always want to slow down the ageing process, so it’s important to remove your makeup at night to let your skin breathe and be nourished by the ingredients in your nightly skincare routine.
Dr. Pen Australia: What are some of the skincare ingredients you’re loving right now?
Monica: I love Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C, because my skin is really dry. It's a common skin issue in Australia because of the great deal of sun exposure that we receive. I firmly believe that it’s never too early to invest in your skincare routine to help protect your skin in the long run. As we age, the body slows down its natural production of collagen, and this can dry out the skin also. Hyaluronic Acid is ultra hydrating, so it’s great for targeting dry, flaky skin and locking in hydration.
Hyaluronic Acid: HA is a powerful humectant, a sugar naturally found in our skin that attracts water molecules, then holds onto them - in terms of skincare, this means that any HA that you apply topically will help attract moisture to your skin and keep it glowing and plump. The amount of naturally occurring HA in our bodies begins to slow down in our mid-20s, so it’s a great ingredient to add back into your routine, especially when microneedling!
Try our Anti-Ageing Powerhouse Serum Pack of Three, containing HA, Vitamin C for brightening and Retinol for reducing fine lines and preventing wrinkles here.
When I was younger, I used to play outside without sunscreen (naughty young Monica!) which has given me many sunspots and pigmentation - Vitamin C helps a lot, so this is another reason why I love using Vitamin C.
Dr. Pen Australia: What’s one thing that you wish everyone knew about skincare?
Monica: So many people don’t use any skincare products or routines, because they think they don’t yet have any concerns (especially ageing). But please remember that skincare is preventative!
